How Does Color Make You Feel?

Ever wonder why you feel cheerful at Christmas? Could it be all the red and green lights?  Have you ever felt tired in a blue room or full of energy in a red room? Colors can change our mood, make us motivated or feel tired – – the colors that surround you may be the reason for your lack of productivity or lower creativity!  The human eye sees about 7,000,000 colors. That’s an incredible amount of color!

Artists and interior designers have long understood how color can intensely affect moods, feelings and emotions. According to about.com, color is a powerful communication tool and can be used to signal action, influence mood and cause physiological reactions. Certain colors can raise blood pressure, increase metabolism or cause eyestrain.

Let’s find out how different colors make you feel. 


Red

  • (Think passion) stimulates, arouses, increases awareness.
  • Elevates a room’s energy level. It’s a good choice when you want to stir up excitement.
  • Pumps the adrenaline.
  • Draws people together and stimulates conversation.
  • Love.
  • Has been shown to raise blood pressure, speed respiration and heart rate.
  • It is usually considered too stimulating for bedrooms or classrooms.
  • May trigger feelings of anger in some people.

Blue

  • (Think about the ocean) relaxing, calm, and transfixing.
  • Blue brings down blood pressure and reduces respiration and heart rate.
  • Considered calming, relaxing, and tranquil. It is often recommended for bedrooms and bathrooms. 
  • Is also known for generating trust.
  • Dark blue does the opposite, generating feelings of sadness.
  • On the other note, blue is said to be the least appetizing color. A blue plate may cause you to not eat as much.

Green

  • (Think nature) Stabilizing and balancing.
  • Is considered the most restful color for the eye. 
  • Green encourages unwinding, but has enough warmth to promote ease and togetherness.
  • In a bedroom, it’s relaxing and pleasant .Green also has a calming influence when used as a main color for decorating.
  • It is thought to relieve stress by helping people relax. 
  • A sign of nature and fertility. 
  • Has been shown to increase reading speed and memory. Reading something printed on green paper may improve your comprehension.
  • The color of money. Is said to be a color that sells.

Yellow 

  • (Think about the sun) revitalizes, uplifts, invigorates. 
  • Communicates happiness. 
  • Is a great color for kitchens, dining rooms, and bathrooms, where happy colors are revitalizing and uplifting. 
  • In halls, entry ways, and small spaces, yellow can feel expansive and friendly.
  • Yellow may have the opposite effect on some people. They may tend to feel frustrated or angry.

    Purple

  • It is connected with luxury as well as creativity. 
  • As an accent color, it gives a scheme depth. 
  • Connected to knowledge and royalty. 
  • Draws attention. 
  • Suggests authority.
  • In its darkest form (eggplant, for example) is rich, intense, and sophisticated.

Orange

  • (Think about pumpkins) Excitement and enthusiasm.
  • It is an energetic color.
  • This is  great for an exercise room. It will bring all the feelings out that you need when jumping into your exercise routine.
