As we previously discussed there is psychology behind color and how it makes you feel. Let’s take a look at a variety of different colors and find out how they make you feel.

White

  • (Think cleanliness) purity, innocence, goodness.
  • Often associated with wedding dresses.
  • It is considered to be the color of perfection.
  • Gives a room a spacious and clean look.
  • Associated with hospitals and doctors.
  • When worn, it may help decrease any nagging feelings or disappointment.
  • Adds highlights to rooms.
  • Can offer a fresh bright view.
  • Often associated with low weight, low-fat diet food and dairy products.

  • (Think mystery) power, elegance, formality.
  • Black is also often associated with death/grief, due to being worn often at funerals.
  • Is also known to increase fear and the unknown (black holes).
  • Indicates strength and authority.
  • In photography, black is used as a background to make the colors stand out.
  • Contrasts well with bright colors.
  • Black absorbs all light in the color spectrum.
  • Often said to generate anger and fear.
  • Black can make a spacious room appear small and more intimate.
  • Worn often because it makes people appear thinner.

Gray

  • (Think sophisticated) self-assured and cool.
  • Shows you want to blend in and not make a statement.
  • Can be depressive.
  • Gray gives a formal and neutral mood to a room.
  • Shows intelligence and knowledge.

  • (Think about the earth) strength, comfort, warmth, security.
  • Often associated with feelings of sadness.
  • Those that love brown are most likely practical, dependent and choose it because it means they can stay in power.
  • Brown is a natural color that suggests a sense of reliability and strength.
  • When wearing brown clothing and decorating with brown furniture, it is thought to give feelings of being connected to nature.
  • In the living room and foyer, it is thought to stimulate conversation.
  • Brings sophistication to a room and sets a calm mood.
  • Is often the paint of choice when preparing to sell a home.

  • (Think compassion) love, calmness.
  • Often associated with baby and little girls.
  • Conveys compassion.
  • When wearing pink, people often appear approachable.
  • Soft tones are relaxing.
  • Bright tones are stimulating.
  • The most popular color for little girls’ rooms.
